Little Israel boy

Do you remember when you were 4? Did you use to run free in parks or open spaces, specially away from your parents? Did everything looked bigger, farther, taller? Things were more interesting and new? More exciting?

That's how I felt while taking pictures of Israel. All the things around him were so exciting, more than me pointing at him w/ a boring camera. Every once in a while he would look at me and smile, then w/ the same look he would stare at something else or at his little brother, and look at me again like someone who was saying, "come on, look around, let's run and play!" We were at the Ault Park playground, and that made sense for me. He made me ask myself, "when do we stop enjoying ourselves and the things around us, running free just for the fun of it?"

I'm glad Jared and Rhonda asked me to photograph their son to keep the memory of his early years. Something that reminded myself how important of a job I've been asked to do. One day Israel may ask himself the same question I did, and he will be able to see the images, and remember that he did enjoy the time when he was 4.

Here you go, the beautiful Whitson Family

When miss Dianna invited me to take pictures of her family I didn't know she had such cute grand kids. All of them have beautiful blue eyes, I mean They just complemented the beautiful afternoon in Newport on the Levee , KY.

It was nice to see how the family interact, helping each other to keep the kids around and behaving, you know how kids are... specially when they are together w/ cousins to run around. Did you notice the matching outfit of the little ones?

I'm honored to be part of that day, and to be able to freeze those moments in digital images helping  them cultivate their memory. Boys, girls, kids, parents, grandparents, family...

PASSION?

the lesson of the moth
by Don Marquis, in “archy and mehitabel,” 1927.

i was talking to a moth
the other evening
he was trying to break into
an electric light bulb
and fry himself on the wires
why do you fellows
pull this stunt i asked him
because it is the conventional
thing for moths or why
if that had been an uncovered
candle instead of an electric
light bulb you would
now be a small unsightly cinder
have you no sense

plenty of it he answered
but at times we get tired
of using it
we get bored with the routine
and crave beauty
and excitement
fire is beautiful
and we know that if we get
too close it will kill us
but what does that matter
it is better to be happy
for a moment
and be burned up with beauty
than to live a long time
and be bored all the while
so we wad all our life up
into one little roll
and then we shoot the roll
that is what life is for
it is better to be a part of beauty
for one instant and then cease to
exist than to exist forever
and never be a part of beauty
our attitude toward life
is come easy go easy
we are like human beings
used to be before they became
too civilized to enjoy themselves

and before i could argue him
out of his philosophy
he went and immolated himself
on a patent cigar lighter
i do not agree with him
myself i would rather have
half the happiness and twice
the longevity

but at the same time i wish
there was something i wanted
as badly as he wanted to fry himself

Peace Cake

Growing up my mother always taught us how to bake, and I really learned. There was a period that I was selling cakes to pay for my transportation to college - bus transportation in Brazil is a very efficient and popular way to get to places.

Another thing I learned is that cake, as anything with sugar, help exhilarate life issues (agreed?). I always felt good remembering the birthday cakes my mom prepared for me and my sisters when we were kids. It made us feel special and with some sweet taste of uniqueness.

Moving to these days... now married, I applied that thought into practice. After a big argument w/ Danielle I decided to bake a cake for her, just like the birthday cakes from the pass. A Peace Cake with sweet kisses afterwords. Lesson learned, don't you think? :)
